Work To Reduce Extremism – District Head Tasks Govt, NGOs, CSOs
The District Head of Makarfi, in Zazzau Emirate of Kaduna State, Alhaji Suleiman Abdulkadir, has challenged Government, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to work towards reducing the level of extremism so as to curb the level of hatred and crisis in the society.
Abdulkadir made this known when he received the Kaduna team of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN) on a courtesy visit at his residence recently.
According to him, ignorance is a major factor fueling extremism among people, the result of which causes crisis. He said, most extremists, when investigated, do not know much about the cause in which they claim to be propagating.
He added that, “No meaningful society can succeed in an atmosphere of rancour and chaos; as such, we must join hands together towards maintaining peaceful coexistence in our communities. I want to assure you of my district’s maximum support towards achieving your set objectives, which I believe is in that direction (Peaceful coexistence).”
Similarly, the District Head of Ikara, who is also the Danmajen Zazzau, Alhaji Balarabe Hussaini, while receiving the team at his residence commended the efforts of the Foundation in promoting peace among Christians and Muslims.
While assuring them of his support, he noted that, both faiths need each other to grow; hence, all religious – ethnic and political differences – must be put aside by followers of the religions and to also tolerate each other’s differences and believe.
He further added that, “Our work has always been to promote peace and unity in our communities, which we have been doing; and I am happy that you are here today to compliment our efforts. We will support and encourage you to achieve success.”
Speaking earlier in the two palaces visited, the Northern Coordinator of Global Peace Foundation’s One Family Under God Campaign, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, said the campaign started in Kaduna in 2013, with the aim of uniting and disabusing the minds of followers of the two major faiths in the country against hatred, and make them realise that, they are members of the same descendants – Adam and Eve – which makes them brothers and sisters in the eyes of God.
Global Peace Foundation’s State Coordinator of the Campaign, Sheikh Halliru Maraya, while making his remarks, said the purpose of the visit was to familiarize and intimate the traditional rulers as gate-keepers of their communities on the planned activities of Global Peace Foundation.
