Women in Plateau urged to inculcate value of peace in family
Women in Plateau State have been encouraged to imbibe the value of peace in their husbands and inculcate same in their children.
The wife of the governor plateau state, Mrs Regina Lalong, Tuesday made this assertion to women during the celebration of the 8th International Women’s Day celebration in Jos.
According to her, “By so doing, we will be surprised to see that peace has returned and our businesses will flourish, poverty reduced, and we will have access to basic social amenities. With this, our lives will be better.”
She called on government and non-governmental organizations to give women the chance to contribute their quota to the development of the state, because God has endowed them with unique capabilities.
Speaking, also, the commissioner for women affairs and social development, Rufina Gurumyen said, “If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a nation.”
She said, the entrepreneurship training programme will give an opportunity for women to be equipped towards self-reliance; adding that, given the entrepreneurial skills to the rural women will go a long way to revive their economic status.
The International Women’s Day is an annual event, which took place on the 8th of March, 2016. It has marked the plight and achievement of women for more than a century.
The theme of this year’s “Planet 50-50 by 20-30” will look at how to ensure the 20-30 agenda, which will position women empowerment at the centre of global sustainability plans.
