Bayero University Kano (BUK)’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Yahuza Bello, Saturday said that the introduction of Treasury Single Account (TSA) has simplified the running of universities in Nigeria, making him the first VC to openly support the policy.
The VC, who is Professor of Mathematics, explained that universities have no problems operating the Treasury Single Account, stressing that the TSA has rather added value to the university administration.
Professor Yahuza said, “What has changed under the TSA regime was our fund that is domiciled at the Central Bank, unlike in the past where such monies were concentrated in commercial banks, and we have no problems assessing them.”
The Vice Chancellor revealed that sequel to the TSA regime, account staff have retrained to handle the exigencies, adding that, “It takes only one person now to perform the job of 10 people. We have no problem with TSA,” Professor Yahuza said.
On the forthcoming 31st Convocation of BUK, Professor Yahuza disclosed that 7,446 graduands would be awarded degrees. The breakdown shows that 4,771 bagged first degree, 1,603 received master degrees, while 65 would be awarded PhD.
Professor Yahuza Bello revealed that the university recorded 34 First-class, 922 got Second-class upper, 2,403 got Second-class Lower, while 1,079 bagged Pass degree. He maintained that unlike in the past, the 2016 convocation would be staggered for three days to accommodate graduands from several faculties.
