The Bauchi State Govt Boosts Security with Modern Patrol Vehicles
The Bauchi State government has spent 233 million naira to purchase 25 patrol vehicles, which are equipped with the modern communication gadgets for easy communication within the security agents in the state.
Governor Barr Mohammed Abubakar, while presenting the vehicles to the beneficiaries, who are namely, the Police, Army and the Department of the State Security Service, called on the people to be more vigilant and proactive in curtailing the activities of criminals by making prompt reports of any suspicious person(s) in their midst to the security agents.
According to him, “We should assist in providing vital information to the security agencies so that we can meet the desired need of our security challenges.”
The governor further explained that, the vehicles were to improve community policing in the state, and prayed for normalcy to return to the northeast and other parts of the country.
He further pointed out that, “If policing and all the people became involved in the fight against insurgency, then, the issue of insurgency would come to an end.” He expressed concern over the way cattle rustling, armed banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities that have dispersed many communities, destroyed economic and social activities and retarded the development of the country in the past few years.
Governor Abubakar stated further that, the patrol vehicles would help in protecting the security of lives and property of citizens in the state, while also observing that, worldwide, the primary responsibility of government is to make provision for adequate security to its citizens so that everyone can have a peaceful atmosphere, and promise that he will make sure that security agents’ issue is being taken with seriousness in the state.
He noted with sadness that the present development by his administration in science and technology in the state, which was perfected to ease the life of the people in the state, has now been converted to criminal use, saying that, making the fight against crime is a difficult task.
According to him, criminal activities in the world are becoming more and more sophisticated, which government, too, must equally devise more sophisticated means of countering the criminal activities.
He assured the people that his administration will continue in making heavy investment on security in the state, so that the people can be safe in going about their businesses.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the security agencies, the Chief of Army Staff, Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, called on other state governments to emulate the Bauchi state governor and also contribute towards the return of peace in the country.
Gen Buratai also commended the governor for providing the security outfit in the state with the patrol vehicles and promised that the vehicles would be judiciously used and maintained.
