Shops, Goods Worth Millions Perish in Kano Inferno
Again, the popular Singer Market in Kano Thursday was gutted by early morning fire and destroyed properties worth millions of naira, Nigerian Pilot has revealed.
An eye witness account said that the fire, which started around 4am, razed many shops in the market. It was also learnt that the fire razed some warehouses containing food stuffs and essential commodities located within the vicinity of the market.
Nigerian Pilot further gathered that, as at 8am on Thursday, men of the state Fire Service were still trying to put off the fire. When contacted, the Director of the state Fire Service, Alhaji Balarabe Kabara, who confirmed the incident, said the fire destroyed several shops in the market.
“We are yet to ascertain the actual number of shops destroyed, as we are still battling to put out the inferno. We cannot tell you the number of shops affected yet, but the fire had destroyed many shops,” he said.
