Senator Sani’s multiple suspensions and image of Kaduna APC survival in 2019
Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party had been in the news, particularly for purportedly suspending Kaduna most popular Senator, Comrade Shehu Sani, from the ruling party.
The state had also consistently portrayed and described Senator Shehu Sani as “representative of fraud and deceit” in the name of Nigeria’s masses. The party’s recent response to Sani’s reaction, following the indefinite suspension slammed on him at the expiration of an 11-month earlier suspension, is also foul language.
Sani, who is representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, was declared suspended from the party for anti-party activities, making it the second, if not the third time Sani is being suspended from APC less than 81 months in office.
Although the previous suspension seems to have little or no effect on Sani’s political popularity, it however rattled him. In all these, Sani had not only kicked against the suspension but declared then invalid, null and void, using the party’s national leadership to whittle it down.
Besides, Sani and his ‘ground troops’ had consistently accused and even indicted the state exco of the party, flooded with actions of bribery and corruption, each time it occurred.
A question thus emerged – whether the party will survive all these crises. Just last Wednesday, the acting publicity secretary of the party, Salisu Tanko Wusono, in a terse statement issued in Kaduna said, “As if determined to prove that he is beyond redemption, Shehu Sani penned a pathetic response to his continued suspension from our party that testifies that he is a denizen of the gutter.”
The statement further averted that, “Anyone that harboured any doubt about the moral in his mind and the decadence of his conduct would now have those uncertainties wiped away.”
It added that, “Crassness of language is a twin to crass of conduct.” The APC slighted that: “Shehu Sani’s outburst is a confirmation that he has no sense of shame; a man full of tantrums, a busker who simultaneously entertains and distresses people with his shameless antics, and has since lost focus as the reason why he was elected to the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the good people of Kaduna Central under the banner of the APC.
“He represents fraud, deceit in the name of Nigeria’s masses. We suspended him indefinitely, following his various anti-party activities and utterances aimed at tearing the party in pieces.
“The masses of Kaduna Central have since unraveled his deceit. His heart and mind are in the PDP whose agent he has been in our party. We wonder when he would gather the courage to publicly move to the party he hobnobs with in private,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the same exco exonerated Sani of all wrong doing a week before this outburst, given the notion that they had been bought over or paid to bid. Sani and El-Rufai political tussle began almost immediately after the election and inaugurations over alleged 2019 political ambitions.
Although Kaduna government under El-Rufai had refuted some alleged utterances against Buhari’s cruel government, Sani had insisted in raising his voice against any anti-people policy of government, both in the state or national, which gave him the posture of ‘anti-party’ activities. Sani had been in activism all his life as founder of Civil Rights Congress, CRC, part of which gave him popularity to capture the Senate seat. This has given a lot to doubt that the (APC) party may not go beyond 2019 in the state.
