Promote Peace and Unity, Emir Tasks Christians and Muslim Faithful
The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Jibrin Maigwari II, has charged both Christians and Muslims to always promote peace and unity, rather than what will cause chaos and disunity among members of the society.
According to him, what unites them (Christians and Muslims) is more than what divides them; hence, there is the need to adhere to the teachings of their religions, which are paramount to improving peace and development.
A statement by the Media and Communications Officer, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Richard Pius Garba, explained that the Emir made the call when he received on courtesy call the Kaduna team members of the Foundation at his residence recently.
The statement also noted that the Emir underscored the need for people to always have the fear of God in all they do, instead of pretending in what they say, do or believe. He said, “I have observed that most Muslims and Christians say things without sincerity and not from their hearts, and they fail to understand that God, whom they should fear, is more interested in what is sincere in their hearts than just lip service.”
While pledging maximum support and cooperation of his Emirate to the Foundation, Alhaji Maigwari commended their efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence under its ‘One Family Under God Campaign,’ which he stressed will go a long way to reduce the level of mistrust amongst followers of the two major faiths.
Earlier in his remarks, the Northern Coordinator of the One Family Under God Campaign, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, noted that the campaign, which started in six piloting communities of Kaduna State, has an additional six communities of which Birnin Gwari is among.
He said, “The purpose of our visit was to intimate you of our planned activities in your community and to get the support of your Emirate, to enable us scale up the ‘One Family Under God Campaign’ in your community successfully.”
The State Coordinator of the campaign program, Shiekh Haliru Maraya, in his remarks explained that all humans are members of one family in the eyes of God, who is the Creator of humanity; as such religion is only a way of worship of which everyone has the right to worship God and live freely.
