Police Command in the Plateau Archives Crime Cases in 2015: 77 Robberies, 22 Arrests
The Plateau State Police Command has recorded 77 robbery cases and arrested 22 suspects, among others, in the year 2015.
The plateau state police commissioner, Adekunle Oladunjoye, while parading the suspects to newsman in Jos, said the 77 cases and the suspects are still under investigation.
According to him, the command recorded 37cases of culpable homicide, and that 10 of the suspects were arrested. It also recorded 5 rape cases.
He told newsman that 26 arms were recovered in 2015, while 1000 ammunitions were.
Other cases include a man who allegedly poisoned his four-year old son, Bwesaf Palony, to death with poisonous DD force insecticide. According to the CP, the suspect during interrogation confessed the crime and will soon be arraigned in court.
The PC also said, Detectives from the SCID investigating a case of infanticide transferred by Operation Safe Haven, Jos, on the 15th December 2015, arrested one Miss Salome Samuel of Shonong Village in Riyom LGA of the state, who threw her baby down from a storey building.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have been impregnated by one Francis Salu, an Army officer attached to Makera Base Riyom, but was transferred to a place unknown to her.
According to the suspect, when she was in Labour, she delivered the baby in an open place – near her boyfriend’s room – and the baby died instantly. She stated further that, she had no option than to throw down the dead baby through the window of the building.
The commissioner said, investigation into the case has been completed and as soon as the court resumes, the suspect will be arraigned.
In another development, the police operatives have arrested one Sohnan Sunday of Wase LGA, who stabbed one Garba Vondung to death, following a fight that ensued between them.
Investigation revealed that, the suspect visited his wife, Chanchit Sohnan, in her father’s house at Wase to persuade her to return to her matrimonial home, which she deserted in the month of May, 2015, as a result of family misunderstanding between them.
On arrival, the suspect met his wife and the deceased (Garba Vondung) making love in her (father’s) house on that fateful day. Consequently, the aggrieved husband (Sohnan Sunday) stabbed the deceased to death during the scuffle.
The case will soon be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
In a summary of casualties within the force, the Police Commissioner revealed that the command lost fifteen police officers in the course of performing its duties in the year 2015.
PC Oladunjoye said the command intends to build up strategies in 2016 that will help them in sensitization campaigns and enhance community partnership for positive results; raids of black spots would be intensified and information and intelligence gathering would be emphasized as proactive mechanism for the renewed efforts to consolidate the existing peace prevailing in the state.
As a swift morale booster to the Force, the PC revealed that the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, in his magnanimity in rewarding and motivating officers and men of the Force, has graciously promoted one thousand and twenty-four (1,024) officers and men of the Plateau state command in the year 2015.
