Plateau Govt to Internally Generate N13.5 trillion in 2016
The sum of 13.5 trillion naira is being expected by the Plateau State government as internally generated revenue for 2016, according to the Board of Internal Revenue in the state.
Speaking to newsmen in his office, the Acting Chairman of the Plateau State Board of Internally Generated Revenue, Mr Dashed Ariat, said the service would generate 9 billion naira, while the rest would come from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to him, “N13.5 trillion targeted is our realistic budget for 2016, which we are determined and committed, by God’s grace,” adding that, “we are embarking on an intensive collaboration with all stakeholders such as the MDAs and the 17 local government areas, to ensure that the substantial revenue targeted is realized.”
Dr Ariat further said that, “There are large numbers of tax payers both in the formal and informal sectors, that have not been captured, and we are begging to register them so that we can meet up to their obligations.”
He said that the Board was targeting more than N700,000 from individual tax payers from whom the service would generate nothing less than N4.2 billion; stressing that, the service intended to engage some agents to assist in its revenue generation.
He maintained that, with the global economic recession biting hard on nations and governance, plateau government was all out to generate substantial IGR to enable it meet its obligations to the people.
He said the service was determined to improve on its transparency in tax administration through the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
