PDP Chieftain Drums Up Support For Makarfi Committee
A chieftain of opposition party and former Commissioner of Culture and Tourism in Kaduna state, Hon. Abdulrasheed Kakangi, has charged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters to give the Interim PDP National Committee chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, maximum support to re-invigorate the fortunes of the party.
Kakangi, who gave the charge in a chat with newsmen, further expressed strong hope and optimism on capabilities of Senator Makarfi to reorganize, redirect, and resuscitate PDP nationwide, with a view to providing genuine and politically-oriented opposition to the ruling party, and re-invigorate all levels of power in the next round of elections.
He then appealed to all PDP supporters, particularly aggrieved members, to sheath their swords and eschew all grievances and rally round the senator, in his bid to re-position the PDP status quo, adding that Makarfi is ever competent and capable of moving mountains in politics.
“The former commissioner then described Senator Makarfi as an astute politician with sagacity, pedigree and strategy, which has eminently qualified him to stem the tide and revive the PDP to give APC a ‘good fight’ for its money,” he said.
He posited that some serving PDP governors – such as Siriake Dickson of Bayelsa state, among others – are trooping to his residence in Kaduna to pay him homage and show their acceptance of, and solidarity in, his new capacity as chairman of the party’s National Interim Committee.
Kakangi further called on PDP supporters across the country, especially in the North, to eschew all bitterness and rancor with the way things worked out in the past, and return to the party, since, in his words, “the APC has not fulfilled its promises of bread-and-butter to the electorates up till now.”
“Senator Makarfi is poised to perform wonders because he is a veteran politician, who ruled Kaduna state as a political melting point of this country for two consecutive terms, and established a political dynasty upon which all politicians have thrived to date – including those, who decamped to the APC. It was his leadership qualities that saw him as a presidential candidate after Obasanjo, as well as a two terms senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The PDP chieftain then added that, “It was Makarfi’s roles that saw the emergence of PDP victories in many North-west zone states’ gubernatorial polls when Kaduna and Katsina states were under PDP. He used his strategy to stabilize and ensure the successes of the PDP in many states of Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano and his homestead of Kaduna in the past. And the records are there for all, who want to check out. Therefore, he is capable to reconcile and revive the PDP at the national level, to return to status quo ante in the 2019 elections. He needs our support,” he concluded.
