Pankshin Moves To Purchase 400 Tractors For Formers This Season
Plateau State Management Committee of Pankshin Local Government Area has assured to procure 400 tractors for its farmers to use for this year’s farming season.
Chairman of the committee, Mr Stephen Jings, gave the assurance during the flagging-off distribution of 10,000 bags of fertilizers to farmers in Pankshin on Friday.
Mr Jings, who was represented by the Council Secretary, Mr John-Mark Elisha, said the decision to purchase the tractors was part of the council’s efforts to ‘revamp agricultural activities’ in the locality.
According to him, “It is our desire to revamp agricultural activities in our locality and boost food production, hence the distributing of over 10,000 bags of fertilizers to our farmers today. I wish to sound this warning today that any act of diversion of the fertilizer will amount to sabotage, and offenders will be seriously dealt with.
“This is because we won’t tolerate any act that will thwart our concerted efforts to provide farming inputs to our farmers,” he warned, adding that, “we are bent on resuscitating farming activities with these 10,000 bags of fertilizer and the 400 tractors we shall purchase.”
He pledged to ensure that the commodity reached the farmers and proper use of the tractors in the locality. According to him, the State Government has put machinery in place to revamp agriculture, which had been the “main stay” of the Nigerian economy in the past.
Speaking also, Mr Jeol Mafwai, who chairs the Distribution Committee, pledged equal distribution of the commodity to farmers across the council so as to boost food production in the state.
