North-West Governors ‘Not Breaking Away’ From NSGF – Yari
North-West governors have said that the sub-regional chief executives are working assiduously for the development of northern region, and had no intention to break away from the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF).
The chairman of the sub regional body and governor of Zanfara state, Alhaji AbdulAziz Yari, who disclosed this at the end of their meetings in Kano, said that the quest for speedy development of the region brought about the sub-Regional forum to exploit its comparative advantage.
Yari said that the Development Index of the region varies from one geographical setup to the other, adding that “There is diversity in development.” The sub-Regional chairman, who is also the leader of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, further stated that, “we are not breaking away from Northern Governors Forum but instead we collectively agreed to exploit our comparative advantages to the betterment of the region.
“At the Northern Governors Forum, we agreed that there’s diversity in resolving regional problems, because we realised that the problem of the North-east is not the problem of the North-west,” Yari noted.
Governor Yari, who read the communiqué of the sub-Regional body, condoled the federal government and the military over the abduction and (subsequent) death of Colonel Samaila Yunusa, and further charged relevant agencies to re-strategize so as to curb kidnapping in the country.
The sub-Regional body, which expressed satisfaction with success being recorded over insurgency in the North-east, also enjoined Nigerians to continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for desired results. The body commiserated with Kano and Kebbi states over the recent fires that razed major markets in the two states, and pledged to assist those, who lost their fortune in the circumstances.
