Minjibir Election: Kano PDP Alleges Conspiracy By FG, Security Agents – Dansheriff
Chairman People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Dansheriff, has said his party was not defeated in the Minjibir bye election. He affirmed that PDP rather withdrew from the contest ‘due to conspiracy’ by Federal Government and security agencies against it.
Dansheriff disclosed this in an interview with journalists, while noting that that the security agents took sides with the ruling party, alleging that over 1,000 vehicles drove into Minjibir Friday morning, contrary to the agreement reached.
“Security agents are federal government agents, and they decided to take sides. Whether they were even directed by the federal government to take sides with the APC, everybody knows in this country that they sided them; so, there is nothing we can do. Even if we go to court, the same court belongs to APC,” he said.
The chairman also said, “There was no defeat against his party in the bye election of state assembly conducted in Minjibir; nobody defeated us, because we did not participate in the election for reasons that our agreement with APC was flouted.”
He said, “The two major parties, PDP and APC, had an agreement with the security agents not to allow any stranger enter Minjibir local government entirely, and the security agents agreed with the decision not to allow anybody to be there.”
But to their greatest surprise, according to him, their members in Minjibir on Friday morning, counted over 1,000 vehicles allowed into the place with hoodlums for the election of a single LG. “We reported this to the DIG Police, who happened to be the immediate past commissioner of police, Kano state. We reported the matter to him and even sighted 7 villages located.
“We gave him the names; he took it and told us he was going to chase them out. He went to Minjibir with the commissioner of police and saw everything, but to our surprise, he was not able to chase this people out. Few seconds later, a Police team went to the LG secretariat and mounted roadblock there where they allowed only APC supporters with their vehicles into the place and hid there.
“On the other hand, almost all the elected points (polling centers) were seen with a lot of people and vehicles of about 20-30. It was in the night; the PDP stakeholders and the candidates in LG had a meeting and discussed the security implication and the consequences and agreed that it was going to be a tragic one, because anybody can be killed there.
“Seen this going to happen, we decided to pull out for that reason. So nobody will tell you we have been defeated, because we didn’t participate. We knew we would have won if it were free and fair election. The issue is that, they should be fair. Just because you have the government, then you collaborate with the security agents and take what is not yours, which is very unfair, because they are there today, tomorrow they may not be there.
“They are our friends; we are all from Kano. The security of our people was more important to us than winning election. As long as they are going to touch somebody in the name of election violence, we don’t want it. That is our reason for rejecting the election,” he lamented.
Rabiu also said PDP will not take any legal action because it will end up in the court the ruling controls. “We are not taking any legal action because we did not participate in any election. The state and federal government are not fair.”
According him, the party leadership is not doing well in the state and is afraid to conduct LG election. “The fear is the same situation in Kano. That is why they are afraid to conduct LG election because they know very well we will win the election. They know they cannot be able to have the over 1000 vehicles in one local government during LG elections, because everybody has to stay in his own place.
“So, we have learnt today that even if they are going to conduct LG election, probably they will just write results from their own wish. You know the LG electoral committee belongs to the state government. But as long as it is going to be voting point, we believe people will vote PDP, not any other party.”
On whether APC is doing well in Kano, he retorted, “In what area are they doing well, is there anything doing well? They have come with their problems and they are going on with their problems. Every day they are fighting themselves; have they had time to do anything for the people? They are not even settled, talk less of coming to the common men to develop their place.
“Go to hospitals and see – when you go to Aminu Kano Hospital now you will see thousands of people there because there is no government hospital that will accommodate people because there is no medicine, no bed. Everything is bad,” he said.
