Makarfi’s Chiefdoms and 2003 Election
By Salisu David Ncheye, Saminaka
Every person in Kaduna State thought that the purpose of creating Chiefdoms/District Heads was to serve the interest of the communities, which for long have been agitating. However, the whole exercise has become a fraudulent act and a great concern to some reasonable people who are now unhappy with the entire exercise. This is because most of the communities were either compelled or threatened to swallow any misgiving they discovered because of the government’s hidden agenda towards 2003 election.
Having successfully divided the people/communities along religious or ethnic line so as to easily scale through, come 2003 election, without hitches, the question reasonable people keep on asking is: is it really true that government is sincere and honest in this exercise without ulterior motive – considering that the whole exercise is one-sided in the State? Whatever be the argument behind this exercise, it has started to surface since the poor masses are always at the receiving end by killing themselves while the government is happy about it.
Worse still, was the call by some so-called Southern Kaduna politicians that they want Makarfi to succeed himself popularly called Cigaba/Tazarce, because of his developmental projects. Do they mean nobody can perform up to or above Makarfi? Are they then not unfit for governorship position in the State? And yet, these are the people who are saying that we are not second-class citizens in the State!
What is the use of our people being in politics, if we are to keep on accepting to be deputies and not in number one position; which made us to keep on begging, and not others begging from us? Oh, God, save Southern Kaduna people because the Holy Bible says that ‘my people perish for lack of vision;’ and I say others become slaves or enslaves others because of long-throat or poverty.
