“Maitama Sule is Alive, Hale and Hearty” – Sheriff
Ashir Sheriff, an aide to a former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, Maitama Sule, has debunked speculations that his principal has ‘passed on.’
He said an online publication ran a story, saying the pioneer Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission died on Monday. But Mr. Sheriff told journalists that the elder statesman, who holds the traditional title of Dan Masanin Kano, is “alive, hale and hearty.”
“We just arrived Abuja today for a function in Nasarawa State tomorrow. The rumour is malicious and unfounded,” he said. As I speak to you now, he is observing his Asr prayer in his hotel room. He has not even shown sign of any sickness,” he said.
Mr. Sheriff called on people to verify stories before publishing. Despite the confirmation by family members and aid, people were still pouring into the family compound of the former permanent UN rep to still clear their doubts.
