Lassa Fever Kills 4 Persons In Kaduna
Four persons, including an unborn baby, have been confirmed dead at the Saint Louis Specialist Hospital in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following the outbreak of Lassa fever in the area.
The state commissioner for health, Professor Jonathan Nok, who confirmed the incident to newsmen yesterday, said that a medical doctor, a nurse and a pregnant woman were among the deceased.
Dr. Nok said that the doctor and the nurse had shown signs of Lassa fever shortly after they operated a pregnant woman, who was brought in from another hospital in Kafanchan, Jama’a local government.
He said they all later died few days after they were tested positive to the deadly disease. He said the affected hospitals have been put under isolation with the intention of tracing the primary and secondary contacts with the deceased persons.
However, the commissioner urged residents not to panic as government is ‘on top of the situation,’ just as he advised them to maintain personal hygiene around their homes.
