KASU Lecturer, Danfulani, Detained For Alleged Criticism of Govt
Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Mallam Umar Shehu, yesterday ordered the detention of Dr. John Danfulani for allegedly criticising the current government at both Kaduna State and national levels.
He was recently accused of criticising Mallam Nasir El Rural in particular in an alleged post in his facebook as comment, which the Police said was capable of inciting crisis.
The Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Professor Willam Qurix, had suspended Danfulani on the 8th of January, over the said comment, which is yet to be made public.
Danfulani had addressed a Press Conference in Kaduna in August last year under the banner of Centrum Initiative for Development and Fundamental Rights, CENTRUM, in which he said of El Rufai as being “highhanded and unfair” to citizens of the state.
He has also kicked against what he described as “unjust massacre” of Nigeria Shiite after a bloody encounter between the Nigeria Army and the Shiite, which left scores dead last December in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The Police had written the VC, Qurix, to produce Danfulani on the 21st of January in a letter with reference – CR: 3000/KDS/X/D6/Vol.82/150 signed ACP Umar Kofar-Niasa.
According to findings, Danfulani was in India at the time the police was looking for him, but he promptly returned on Wednesday, three days when he read about the invitation.
Speaking to journalists at the Police Headquarters before he was taken away, he said he was innocent of the charge.
“We all know what is happening. I am innocent of these allegations, not to say that I have never made critical statements before now,” he told our reporter, who had been monitoring the development.
“I am being taken to my house now,” he said, on phone, after journalists had left to file this story. “They say they are going to take my laptop and search for whatever they want. But I am fine,” he said; “there is nothing to worry about,” he maintained.
It was confirmed by his lawyer, Barrister James Kanyip, that Danfulani was denied bail and would be detained and be charged to court today (Friday).
