KASTELEA GM warns against dumping of refuse in gutters, buildings
Kaduna state Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) has warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the gutters during this raining season. Retired Col. Zubairu Yerima, who is General Manager of the agency, disclosed this during a joint press briefing in Kaduna Tuesday and urged residents to desist from building houses on river lines due to flood.
He called on the citizens of the state to “desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially on gutters, in this raining season,” and to always keep their environment clean. The General Manager also warned people to “desist from building on River banks, as at the end it will cost the state government when flood occurred.”
While describing streets hawking as a menace, the GM reiterated that, “We are not against your business, but it must be done in a safe place – nt on the road.” Also in his remarks, the FRSC Sector Commandant, Mr. Owomiha Farncis Udoma, noted that speed had killed more than Malaria and Diabetes. He said, “Majority of car owners don’t have license and most of the car owners are using ‘fairly used’ tyres that have since expired,” Owomiha noted.
According to him, “such car owners used the expired tyres of up to ten years; and ideally if tyres reached four years, they are supposed to be changed. Life has no duplicate; the only thing is that, make sure your vehicle is in good condition,” the sector commandant said, while solicited for the support of the media in the state towards sensitizing car owners on the danger of over-speeding, stressing thus, “don’t involve in over-speeding because it kills.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Council’s chairman, Comrade Garba Muhammad, disclosed that the essence of the press conference was to support the activities of KASTELEA operations and to sensitize members of the public about their activities.
The press conference was in preparation of Saturday, 16th July, 2016 Road Walk sensitization Rally on KASTELEA Operations and Anti-Corruption for KASTELEA Marshals and the public in general.
