Kano Rerun: Two Injured Hoodlums Arrested, No Life Lost – Police
Kano Command of the Nigeria Police Force yesterday refuted allegations of lost of life during the botched State House of Assembly rerun at Minjibir town in Kano state. The Police, however, declared that two women were injured, while several hoodlums were arrested during the rerun election in Minjibir.
A statement issued and made available to our reporter by Kano state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, dismissed as untrue, reports on certain section of the media that life was lost during the mayhem.
DSP Magaji Musa Majia stressed that, “For the sake of clarity, I wish to state that no single life was lost during the exercise.” The press release, however, revealed that two women, who sustained injuries when thugs disrupted the peaceful exercise, were treated and discharged, adding that, “minimum force was employed to safeguard the electorate, election materials and INEC officials.
The DSP further revealed that several hoodlums were arrested during the crisis at Minjibir town, adding that they would soon appear in court. The statement, therefore, advised media platform to seek clarification from competent authority before rushing to the press. Minjibir town – 35km north of Kano – was thrown into chaos by hoodlums during the House of Assembly rerun last Saturday.
