Kano Declares Strikes Thursday with Partial Success, Occupies Banks, Others
Kano state chapter of the Labour Unions yesterday occupied Kano state, in accordance with their pledge to embark on ongoing nationwide strike declared by the national body over hike in fuel price.
The strike was partially successful as some institutions, including banks, were occupied by the striking civil servants, while some public schools were prevented from resuming studies across the metropolis.
Chairman of the Kano State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kabiru Ado Minjibir, had on Wednesday stated that his members will join the nationwide strike from Thursday. The chairman told journalists that the chapter had complied
with directives on the strike action by its national body, saying that the strike did not take off Wednesday due to lack of communication with affiliate unions. Minjibir said, “We held a meeting today (Thursday) and we have restrategized against the second day of the strike.”
