Kaduna Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the auspices of APC ‘AKIDA’ (meaning, “True APC”) Wednesday urged Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai to lead people in the state with sense of humility and commitment.
The Tom Maiyashi-led group of APC equally promised that the AKIDA APC will intensify its campaign to mobilize members to protect their legitimate interests and also encourage them to be decent, responsible and to shun illegal and provocative acts and utterances.
APC members, in a joint meeting of the state executive committee and advisory council, frowned at the policies of the governor, which it said is ‘anti masses’ and a situation where the government shuts out basic involvement of citizens in governance.
Addressing newsmen on behalf of its members in Kaduna, Wednesday, convener of the meeting, Tom Mataimaki Maiyashi said, “It is convinced that the state will be better run if government improves its sensitivities to the values of consultation and humility of leaders.”
According to him, “APC AKIDA is not a faction of APC in our state. We are responsible and loyal party members, who believe in a united and strong APC in our state and Nigeria. It is not an alternative party structure. We exist because our party structure do not exist or function in a manner prescribed by our party constitution or the interests of our members; and one of our key goals is to help to re-establish party structures at all levels.
“We exist because our party has been deliberately hijacked and incapacitated, and our members are deprived of a major asset to exercise their rights to be served by a party, which puts this government in power. AKIDA is not an opposition movement. All of us here and thousands, who are mobilizing our fellow party members in grassroots worked hard to put this government in power, and we want an APC government that will work successfully for the people.
“AKIDA is not a hostile opposition to the government. We believe in playing responsible and constructive roles in a situation where government appears to have shut out basic involvement of citizens in governance.
“AKIDA is not a vehicle for anyone’s political ambition. The immediate challenge in Kaduna State is to free our party from individuals, who use it only as a weapon against party members, and galvanize the energies of our members to support policies that are pro-people and oppose those that are anti-poor.
“We reiterate our appeal to the national leadership of our great party to fulfill its promise to reconstruct our party at all levels in our state. We appeal to our Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, to lead with a sense of commitment to the welfare of our people and recognition of our current difficult circumstances. We are convinced that our state will be better run if our government improves its sensitivities to the values of consultation and humility of leaders.
“We will remain open to all avenues and opportunities to improve the impact of our party and its integrity, as well as the manner the government of Kaduna State relates with our fellow citizens,” he said.
Present at the meeting were Senator Shehu Sani, former APC gubernatorial aspirant in 2015 general elections; Hon. Isa Ashiru; Ambassador Sule Buba; Alhaji Yaro Makama, former Kaduna APC Interim Management Committee Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed and Hajia Hafsat Baba, among others.
