Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim, has vowed to undertake studies or research to ascertain the causes of incessant violent crimes, particularly rape, in the State to find out their root causes. Alhaji Adamu, who disclosed this to journalists during a familiarization visit to Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kaduna State Council Tuesday, said the study will enable him to know how to solve the problems – if it is cultism or the need to commit crime.
According to the CP, he would like to go into the research because of desire for zero tolerance on some of the causes of the crimes in the state. The Commissioner also said he observed with dismay, that there were three dimensions to crimes in the state, adding that in Southern Kaduna there is ethnic-religion conflict, with Abuja-Kaduna highway where most of the crimes were pockets of kidnapping and Zaria-Birnin Gwari with cattle rustling, and some few robbery cases emerging.
Alhaji Adamu assured that the police would destroy the crime rates and are mapping out strategies to ensure that they contain the situation, while promising the public hitch-free Sallah celebration for all.
Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Council Chairman, Comrade Garba Muhammad, said the issue of security is very paramount for the citizens, and promised the journalists of continuous support and co-operation.
He urged the Police Command to speed up, especially in addressing the menace of kidnapping and raping of minors in the state, which has given the public great concern. The Council Chairman also called on the judiciary to speedy up the issue of prosecution, adding that “if the culprits are not prosecuted, then the police are left with no option than to go back to ‘square one,’ but if there is prosecution, it would serve as a deterrent for others.”
