Implement National Conference Recommendations
In addition to the widely publicized change mantra of the Federal Government, what Nigeria needs is the restructuring of the country in line with the findings and recommendations of the last National Conference so as to enable the Federating Units harness their various natural resources and to create wealth for their people.
The present situation, which left the local government councils and states at the mercy of the Federal Government, cannot bring any meaningful change. The system will continue to jeopardize national unity and development. It is a fact that an ordinary or rural man can hardly get the opportunity to see his governor, but he can easily see his local government chairman.
The recommendations and resolutions of the last National Conference covered, among other things, areas like: agriculture, water resources, civil society organizations, labour, youth and sports, devolution of powers, economy, trade and investment, energy, judiciary, legal reforms, political restructuring and forms of government, and physical federalism, which are very vital. Without this restructuring, there will be a continuous political instability in the country.
