How 8-year old grandson of late Saf Ron-Kurele Agai survived two gun-shots … 6 killed in aftermath protest
In a recent murder incident of a Bokkos community Chief, late Saf Ron-Kulere Lazarus Agai, his eight-year old grandson, Angelo Afala, who was also victim of the ambush, (miraculously) survived two gun-shots. The late First-class Chief was killed Monday, by unknown Fulani herdsmen, while returning from his farm, in Bokkos Local Government Council of Plateau state.
Narrating his story, the grandson of the late Saf Ron-Kurele, who was among the convoy of his grandfather, said the suspected herders attacked them, while returning from the farm, when their assassins suddenly appeared from inside the bush with the AK47 raffles between Sha and Mafo communities.
Master Angelo Afala, who is in pain, managed to speak to our correspondent on what occurred to them, narrating how his grandfather and mother (in the same vehicle) were instantly murdered by the assailants. He said the attackers opened fire sporadically, shooting on his Royal Highness’s moving car with bullets shattering the glasses, after which the assailants left them and scrabbled for safety.
He said, “the first shots me behind, and I was still running to escape the killers but they targeted me again behind with another shot, which threw me into a pond ditch, thinking that I was dead, before a ‘Good Samaritan’ came to my rescue.”
Speaking also, was the 8-year old survival’s father, Mr Jonathan Afala, whose wife died alongside her father, late Saf Ron-Kurele Lazarus Agai. The late First-class Chief, who instantly breathed his last after the gun-shots, was former councilor representing Sha ward. Afala expressed sadness over the ugly incident involving his wife and father-in-law as unfortunate.
According to him, “the truth is that I wasn’t there at the scene when the brutal killing took place. They were leaving farm between Sha and Dafo when the Paramount Ruler met his waterloo, including my wife and the orderly, when the gunmen suddenly attacked behind, leaving a trail of pain and agony.”
He further said that the driver was shut dead immediately, and the vehicle lost control and ran into a ditch – which gave the assailants the opportunity to start shooting sporadically; then the occupants of the vehicle were able to come down and started running before the assailants arrived the scene.
Mr Afala pointed out that, they were able to disperse them running helter-scatter, because it looked as if they were after the Saf Ron-Kurele, Lazarus Agai, as they first shot the orderly and went after the Paramount Chief and shot him, killing him instantly.
Investigation reveals that, the 8-year Angelo jumped down from the Hilux and the Masked-men couldn’t waste their time going after him rather than kill any available living creator within the time frame. The boy’s father explained further that, those killers thought that after shooting the boy from the head, he was dead; so they abandoned him as ‘one of the dead,’ whose skull bled nonstop.
The boy prayed for the soul of his grandfather, late late Saf Ron-Kurele Lazarus Agai, whose death has created a vacant position to the entire Kulere people and the nation.
The Bokkos community have kept asking: “Is it a crime for a people to be hospitable?;” “Is it a crime for a people to be peaceful?;” “Is this the price we have to pay for demanding that our voice be heard and for the culprits, who killed our Dear Saf Ron Kulere, be apprehended and be brought to justice?”
In another twist of event, six youths were reportedly shot dead by men of the Nigerian Army in Bokkos, while protesting the attack on “Danan and Tasha Makarfi” villages by Fulani herdsmen on Wednesday night.
The protest that was staged on Thursday was said to be peaceful; nobody was molested, no house burnt and neither was anybody killed, yet the Army boys chose to send six of the protesting youths to their untimely grave with undisclosed numbers injured and currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The community lamented, thus: “Our voice will never be silenced; those, who have murdered sleep will themselves not sleep. We are begging for intervention when the security apparatus turn against us; killing of our armless civil youth for protesting their ruler’s killers will not go scot-free.”
