Fire, Again, Guts Down Kano Sabon Gari Market; 5000 Goods Destroyed
The popular Sabon-Gari Kano Market has again been gutted by fire. This is a recurrent incident a few months ago, in which properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
According to an eyewitness, the fire started at the France Road’s section of the market where furniture and other household items are being sold. The fire reportedly began on Friday night of July 22, and could not be put off even as at noon of Saturday.
Security agents, including members of the Army, Civil Defence and Vigilante, were deployed to the market, while fire-fighters and market owners tried to put an end to the fire – to all in vain.
It’s worthy of note that various recent fire incidents at the market usually start night – when traders had closed. About 5000 shops were destroyed in the recent fire, while goods worth millions of naira were consumed in the inferno.
