Electricity: Notorious Armoured Cables Vandal Arrested in Kaduna
A middle aged Man, Abdulazeez Umar, who specialises in vandalising armoured cables and other power supply infrastructures, has been apprehended by the Nigerian Police Force in Rigachikun, Kaduna.
A statement issued and made available to newsmen in Kaduna Saturday by Head, Corporate Communications of Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, described the culprit as “a notorious vandal, who was arrested a few months ago on the same offence.”
Mr. Abdullahi further revealed that the suspect carted away 15metres 150mm 4core armoured cable at Hakimi Distribution Sub-station, in Rigachikun, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis, thereby causing days of blackout to electricity users in some parts of the town.
A police officer attached to Rigachikun Division, who craved for anonymity because he was ‘not authorised’ to speak to the press, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the suspect will soon be taken to court.
Meanwhile, an agreement has reached between officials of Kaduna Electric, some leaders of the community and the Divisional Police Officer to restore power supply to the affected community with the understanding that the exhibits (the stolen armoured cable) shall be produced in court when the culprit is finally arraigned.
Abdulazeez Abdullahi expressed the company’s appreciation to the officers and men of Nigerian Police, Rigachikum Division, for arresting the vandal, and urged them to ensure diligent prosecution of the culprit. According to him, “We hope that this time around, the culprit will not escape the full weight of the law.”
