Catholic Archdiocese Of Jos Celebrates Chrism Mass
The Catholic Archdiocese of Jos on Tuesday witnessed yet another round of Chrism Mass, an occasion that comes up once-a-year.
“Chrism Mass is a day of prayer, so dear to Catholics; a day in a year Catholics come together as Priests, Religious and Laity to pray for a greater spirit of love, peace and unity among them.
“It’s also a period to pray with/and for the priests, who also renew their ordination promises, and to be more committed in spreading the goodness, by bringing hope to the hopeless, comfort to those, who suffer and being available to serve people in a selfless manner.”
The Catholic Archbishop of Jos, Most Rev Dr. Ignatius A. Kaigama, disclosed this during the celebration of the Chrism Mass in Jos, to mark the Holy Week activities, which begin on Palm Sunday, culminating to Chrism Mass on Tuesday, and to continue with the “Washing of Feet.” Next is Good Friday, which is the celebration of the Lord’s Passion where all Catholics will venerate the Cross of Jesus, to be followed by Holy Saturday, which is “Service of Light,” down to Ester Sunday.
The Archbishop noted that, “Poverty is the spirit of giving a little, purity of heart and body,” saying that, “the quality of Mary is not only for priests to imitate but for all Christians to go and preach the Good News.”
He stated that there is the need for high morals from the family, which is crucial but, unfortunately, most defective formation in the homes. He admonished that children must be well trained at home, schools and Mosques; as this will help in building holy families.
According to him, “But it’s not healthy; there is need to do more, which children must speak their tribal language, not only English; it will run down your children. At least teach them to speak 3 languages.
“We must pray for our country; we should ask our Mother Mary to purify us, our country. We must also fervently ask our Blessed Mother to intercede to purify families and communities, society, the nation, so that the world will become better,” he stated.
Archbishop Kaigama further said that, “We should ask her intercession to be free from conflicts, militancy, religious fanaticism, terrorism,” adding that, “let us pray and have a society free from sin.”
He urged the Lay people to always say the Rosary everyday wherever they find themselves, as “it will bring us peace and avoid the sin of the flesh, because more souls will go to hell, especially (through) the modern dresses.”
He called on the congregation to make sacrifices for sinners, because many souls will go to hell because they have no one to make sacrifices and pray for them; and if people adhere to what has been said, many souls will be saved and there will be peace,” he said.
“We must not continue to offend our Lord, who is already too much offended. Many marriages are not good; they don’t please our Lord and are not of God.”
Conscience Triumph observes that during the Chrism Mass, Oil was blessed – Oil of the Sick, Oil of Catechumens and Oil of Chrism, which is only blessed once a year, and only by an Archbishop.
