AIG Mbu charges Police Officers to collaborate with locals and maintain respect to Human Rights
Police Officers have been charged to respect human rights and ensure they collaborate with the locals, traditional rulers and members of the PCRC to fight crime in their various areas of assignments.
The Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos, AIG M.J. Mbu, made this known on Friday at the graduation of 47 officers on Strategic Leadership and Command Course No.2/2015 for Assistant Commissioners of Police.
He also tasked them to be bold, brave, hard working and transparent, stating that, “hard work without integrity is equal to zero, but the two combined scores up to 100 percent.”
The officers were also tasked not to allow themselves to be cowed, and should not succumb to blackmail or intimidation but always defend their subordinates when the latter are doing the right thing, and to admonish them when they do wrong.
According to him, the goal is therefore to ensure that members of the Force become more competent, confident and efficient in the art of modern policing.
He said, as Strategic Managers, care has been taken to ensure that this course prepares them for higher responsibilities, while providing them with the necessary tools to understand and properly interpret government policies on matters affecting national security.
The commandant further reminded them that, “to know the society we live in today has become very complex, infested with organized crimes ranging from armed robbery to child trafficking and advanced terrorism/insurgency;” adding that, Cyber crimes with criminals is becoming more and more daring in their operations.
According to him, “this development has made the policing job more challenging and tasking,” adding that, “the foundation stone laying for the college was done in 1971 by the late IGP Kan Salem.”
He said the college was established to train men and women who will combat crime and maintain peace and order in the country, which is to serve as Education Center to give specialized and advanced training to serving Officers from the rang of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.
AIG Mbu explained further that, presently, courses being run by the college include, Strategic Leadership and Command course (DCPs) and (ACP), Tactical Leadership and Command course (CSPs), Operational Leadership and Command course (DSPs) and Promotion courses (ASPs-DCPs).
Others include, Refresher Courses for SPOs, Advanced Detective Course and ASP promotion courses, respectively.
